The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has launched the National VAT Compliance and Enforcement Initiative, marking a major step in strengthening Value Added Tax (VAT) collection across the country.
The launch included the inauguration of the initiative’s Committee Members, who will oversee its implementation.
The move comes as part of the Domestic Tax Revenue Division’s efforts to strengthen VAT compliance in 2026, in line with the recent VAT reforms under the Value Added Tax (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1151).

Speaking at the launch, Commissioner-General of the GRA, Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, revealed that there is a significant gap in VAT collection, for which enforcement and compliance measures must be taken.
“Currently, there is a 60 percent gap between the revenue the GRA is capable of collecting from VAT and what is actually being realized, highlighting the urgent need to intensify efforts to close this gap,” he noted.
