A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications team, Ellen Ama Daaku, has criticised the leadership of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), describing it as a non-serious administration over how it is governing the country.
Her comments come amid controversies surrounding the government’s proposal to rename the Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport.
Speaking on Anopa Bofo on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, she described the government’s justification for the renaming as unreasonable and “misplaced.”
According to Madam Daaku, there are pressing issues affecting Ghanaians, particularly the struggles of cocoa farmers who have reportedly not been paid since October 2025. She stressed the need to prioritise these challenges rather than focusing on changing the name of the airport.
She further criticised the lack of progress on several critical matters, including the ongoing galamsey menace and the LGBTQIA+ bill, noting that these issues are far more important to the general population.
“Am speaking now, some areas don’t have water, Teshie environs, Nungua environs, Spintex, Tema, part of it has no water, Burma camp, Cantonment, Kasoa and it’s environs not to talk of the dumsor.”
She urged NDC leadership to use its influence to improve the cocoa sector and also give maximum attention to infrastructure challenges, pointing out that some regions are experiencing acute water shortages and power outages.
In her view, government focus should be on resolving these urgent problems rather than renaming the airport.
