The spokesperson for the Vice President, Ama Pratt, has stated that the newly elected flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has seen a decline in support within the party.
Speaking on GHOne TV on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, she pointed out that Dr. Bawumia secured 61.47% in the last NPP primaries, highlighting the need for significant improvement within the party to regain public trust.
“The last time the former Vice President stood for flagbearership, he won by 61.47%; this time it was 56.48%. He has dropped, and his popularity has dropped within the party,” she said.
She emphasised that there is much work to be done within the NPP, pointing to a general decrease in support for the party that requires immediate attention.
“It doesn’t mean much for a party that has lost the way it did in the last elections. Generally, there is a popularity dip in the party, and a lot of work needs to be done.”
“A party striving to regain the trust of its citizens must prioritise honesty, as the NPP should be truthful, given that Ghanaians are already aware of the truth,” Mrs. Pratt added.
