Some Kumasi residents in the Ashanti Region, predominantly drivers and pedestrians, are up in arms over the incumbent government’s decision to scale down the Suame Interchange project from a 4-tier to a 3-tier design, questioning the sudden U-turn on the project.
Many could not fathom the planned decision and questioned the government’s prioritization of the project.
They cited the heavy traffic congestion in the area as their displeasure.
“If they can’t do the 4-tier, they should just do the 3-tier properly. We don’t want half-baked solutions. This won’t solve our traffic problems,” said a frustrated driver.
Others also believe that the government should consider prioritizing the people’s needs and added that “If the money isn’t ready for the 4-tier, just do the 3-tier and get it done.”
A pedestrian drew parallels with the previous administration’s pledge on the project, noting that what they intend to do is contrary to the current administration’s stance.
“The New Patriotic Party (NPP) government promised us a 4-tier interchange, and that’s what we want,” a male pedestrian expressed profusely to Bismark Mensah of Angel News.
