Ghana’s agribusiness sector is struggling to compete with cheap imports, with industry stakeholders calling for government intervention to level the playing field.

The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare has acknowledged the challenges, pledging policy reforms and support for local producers.

The Minister met with Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) from rice, poultry, and horticulture, who highlighted the impact of unfair competition from imports on local production.

“Imported products often enter the market at lower prices, undermining domestic manufacturers who bear higher production and tax costs,” said industry representatives.

The government plans to review import licensing regimes and strengthen linkages between farmers and industry to support local production.

Madam Ofosu-Agyare also assured stakeholders that issues like sand winning and farmland insecurity would be addressed.
