The Government of Ghana has announced plans to commence payment of gratuity arrears owed to retired military personnel under Constitutional Instrument (CI) 129.
This follows consultations between the Military High Command and the Ministries of Finance and Defence, which resolved a five-year impasse over the gratuity formula.
In a statement issued by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, the Military High Command disclosed that a two-year phased implementation roadmap has been established.
According to the statement, all personnel who retired from November 2020 will benefit from the new gratuity formula.
“Payments will be made in four instalments between February 2026 and December 2027. The first tranche will be released by close of business on Friday, February 27, 2026,” it announced.
It added that a total of 238 officers and 2,155 soldiers are expected to benefit.
The statement further assured that all future retirements will be processed fully in line with CI 129, bringing closure to a matter that had remained unresolved since 2020.
The Military High Command expressed appreciation to the Government for its support in resolving the issue and ensuring that affected personnel receive their full entitlements at the correct rate.
