Communications team member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Aaron Asiedu-Antwi, has alleged a power struggle between the manager of the Cocoa Marketing Company (CMC), Dr. Wisdom Kofi Dogbey, and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of COCOBOD, Randy Abbey.
He added that the power play between the two leaders has prevented the New Democratic Congress (NDC) government from executing forward sales, which has led to a reduction in cocoa prices.
“What has prevented the NDC government from executing forward sales, leading to the drop in cocoa prices, is a power play between the CMC manager and Dr. Randy Abbey,” he alleged on Angel TV, Thursday, February 26, 2026.
According to him, cocoa farmers are suffering because management has been unable to execute even a single forward sale between November 2025 and February 2026.
“Why did they sit for three months without carrying out forward sales, choosing to sell at spot price and thereby allowing the price to fall, and they are now shouting,” he questioned.
He also cited misuse of funds as another factor, accusing Dr. Randy Abbey of diverting COCOBOD’s funds to purchase 100 pickups and 10 V8s at a time when cocoa farmers are facing hardship.
