The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has issued a stern warning to Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to substantiate his claims regarding the ongoing security service recruitment exercise.
In a recent session in Parliament, Mr Ayariga emphasised that all National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament (MPs) would advocate for severe action against Afenyo-Markin if he fails to provide credible evidence to support his allegations in front of both Parliament and the media.
“I thought the minority leader would deny making such statements, but instead, he insinuated that he knows more. You must substantiate it in this chamber in full view of all the media houses; otherwise, we in the NDC will insist on the most severe punishment for you,” he stated.
He further challenged Afenyo-Markin to publicly name any NDC member who may have interests in the company involved in providing the security services, noting that the president has promised that any minister involved in a scandal will be removed.
Mr Ayariga also highlighted that this same company had previously collaborated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to provide similar services.
He concluded by dismissing the opposition’s attempts to fabricate scandals as futile efforts aimed at tarnishing the government’s reputation.
“We want to hear it in public; the attempts to scandalise this government will not happen because some people, every week, register a scandal. Even when there’s no scandal, they want to manufacture one,” he uttered.
