The CEO of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, Dr. Mary Awusi, has said Ghana is emerging as a leader in sustainable cement production in West Africa following the launch of a state-of-the-art facility by CBI Limited.
The facility, located in the Tema Free Zones Enclave, is expected to boost industrial growth, create jobs, and strengthen Ghana’s position in the regional cement industry.
Speaking at the commissioning of the world’s largest Calcined Clay plant at the Free Zones Enclave in Tema on Thursday, March 5, 2026, Dr. Awusi described the event as “not merely the unveiling of an industrial facility, but a celebration of bold vision, innovation, and confidence in Ghana’s industrial future.”
She said the investment positions the Tema Free Zones Enclave and Ghana more broadly at the forefront of sustainable and environmentally responsible cement production globally.
She explained that the Tema Export Processing Zone is a multipurpose industrial park that accommodates both free zone and non-free zone enterprises, allowing companies like CBI Limited, a non-free zone enterprise, to operate within the enclave.
By establishing its state-of-the-art facility here, she stated that, CBI Limited has demonstrated confidence in the enabling environment created by the government through the Free Zones Authority.
Dr. Mary Awusi added that, the company exemplifies the type of large-scale, high-impact, innovative, and sustainable investment the Free Zones program aims to attract.
She said CBI Limited’s achievements further strengthen the enclave’s reputation as a premier industrial hub and a strategic gateway for industrial growth in West Africa.
