Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, has issued a strong caution to the newly elected Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal, urging him to deliver on his mandate.
He challenged the lawmaker to diligently fulfill the promises he made during his campaign, warning that failure to do so could result in his personal opposition in the next general elections.
“I took note of those statements, and I am going to hold you, as my son, he knows what I mean by saying that. Its not a word of the general son I have been using for all of you, this one is different, and he knows the import of that.
“I will hold you accountable to the good people of Ayawaso East Constituency. Serving them, you must. So I will focus on you on this floor to see how you perform in serving them,” he added.
The Speaker stated this during Baba Jamal’s official swearing-in ceremony in Parliament on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, where he challenged the legislator to prioritize the needs of his constituents.
Mr. Bagbin reiterated his warning that failure for the MP to meet expectations would compel him to actively campaign against Baba him in the lead to 2028 elections.
“If you don’t, I can assure you that I will be there [Ayawaso East Constituency] to campaign against you in the next election,” he stated vehemently.
To ensure delivery, he noted, “So, facilitate your work, we’ll definitely have to give you the basic tools to work with and the first is the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana, which you just swore to preserve, protect, and to defend.”
