The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Shippers Authority, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has disputed claims that the Authority has begun charging a $1000 emergency conflict fee on containers due to the Iran-Israel war.
He described reports of the charge as misinformation spread by “uneducated partisan bloggers”.
In a statement, the CEO clarified that the Authority does not charge such a fee and has not been officially informed of any such surcharge by shipping lines.
He explained that the Ghana Shippers Authority regulates local charges of shipping lines, which are the owners of ships, and has initiated an investigation into the matter after seeing complaints on social media.
“Education is good! It is possible to go to school and to still come out as very uneducated. Clearly, this online portal authors do not know the difference between the Ghana Shippers Authority and Shipping Lines.
“Shipping Lines are owners of ships who issue their own charges; the Ghana Shippers Authority regulates the local charges of shipping lines. We have not officially been informed about any Emergency Conflict Surcharge of any shipping line,” the statement read.
The statement urged the public to disregard the misinformation and criticized bloggers for spreading ignorance, emphasizing the importance of education and accuracy in reporting.
