Ghanaian rapper, Medikal, has revealed that he will not receive any payment for serving as an ambassador for the “Red Means Stop” campaign, an initiative aimed at tackling the abuse of the synthetic drug known as “Red” among young people.
The campaign is being led by the National Youth Authority as part of efforts to raise awareness about substance abuse among the youth.
At the official announcement on March 12, 2026, Medikal said he chose to support the campaign because he wants to make a positive impact on society.
According to the rapper, he carefully considered how to use his brand to make a long-term impact, especially in reducing substance abuse among young people in the future.
“I asked myself what I can do with my brand that will be impactful. In the next 20 to 30 years, I want to look back and say this helped reduce drug use among young people,” he said.
Medikal emphasized that his participation in the campaign is entirely voluntary and not motivated by payment.
“I want people to know, especially Ghanaians, that I am not being paid for this. I am doing it out of my own will to help society and try to make an impact,” he added.
The announcement of his appointment was made on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment by the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo.
The event was attended by several stakeholders, including the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Osman Ayariga.
Authorities say the “Red Means Stop” campaign forms part of a broader national effort to address the growing problem of substance abuse among young people.
The initiative aims to educate the public about the dangers of synthetic drugs such as “Red,” which has become a concern in some youth circles.
