President John Dramani Mahama has assured residents of the Bono Region that the Jinijini–Sampa road will be fully asphalted and completed by 2027 as part of government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure across the country.
Speaking during an inspection of ongoing work on the road on Wednesday, March18, 2026, the President expressed appreciation for the warm reception and the opportunity to engage with residents and stakeholders.
On the Jinijini–Sampa road project, President Mahama acknowledged that the road had faced several challenges over the years but assured residents of government’s commitment to completing it.
“Today, we are also here to inspect work done by Rango Construction Company Limited on the Jinijini road, which has experienced challenges over the years. I want to assure you that we are committed to completing this road,” he said.
He further disclosed that the road would be fully asphalted to ensure durability and improve transportation in the area.
“This will be a fully asphalted road, and by the end of 2027, the stretch from Jinijini to Sampa will be completed. We will return to commission it together with you,” he assured.
He noted that the visit forms part of his government’s Accountability Series, an initiative aimed at promoting transparency and direct engagement with the public.
“During our campaign, we made a clear promise to the people of Ghana, that when given the mandate, we would practise open and fair governance and remain accountable to the people at all times. That is the commitment we are delivering on today,” President Mahama stated.
He explained that the Bono Region was selected as the starting point for the exercise, bringing together chiefs, queen mothers, elders, and other stakeholders to interact with government officials.
“We have therefore begun the Accountability Series here in the Bono Region, and we have invited chiefs, queen mothers, elders, and all stakeholders to join us in Sunyani for this important exercise. It is an opportunity for you to hear directly from government, and also for us to listen to your concerns so we can continue to improve,” he said.
Touching on the state of the economy, President Mahama indicated that significant progress has been made in stabilising key indicators.
“I am pleased to report that the economy is stabilising. Inflation, which stood at 23.4 percent when I assumed office, has reduced significantly. The cedi has also stabilised against the dollar, moving from 17 cedis to approximately 10.7 cedis. With this stability, investor confidence is returning, and foreign direct investment is increasing,” he noted.
The President highlighted a number of flagship initiatives being implemented to drive development, including the Big Push, Mahama Cares, Nkoko Nkitinkiti, and the 24-hour market programme.
“As part of our development drive, we have introduced key initiatives including the Big Push, Mahama Cares, Nkoko Nkitinkiti, and the 24-hour market programme, which will see modern markets constructed in districts across the country,” he said.
He recalled that he had recently cut sod for the construction of a 24-hour market in the region, describing it as a project that will boost economic activity and create opportunities for traders.
“Not long ago, we were with the Dormaahene to cut sod for the construction of the 24-hour market in this region. That project will create more opportunities for traders and support economic activity,” he added.
President Mahama concluded by encouraging residents to actively participate in the Accountability Series in Sunyani to engage with government and contribute to national development.
“Let me once again encourage all of you to attend the programme in Sunyani. Come and listen to what government has done, and also share your concerns with us. Your input is important as we work together to build a better Ghana,” he said.
