The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that construction of a new teacher training college at Ezinlibo in Jomoro, Western Region, is scheduled to begin in 2027.
In an interview with the press on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, he said the move responds to calls for a teacher training to serve the Ezinlibo enclave.
“I’m happy to note that government has taken a decision to establish a college of education at Ezinlibo Jomoro in the Western Region,” he said.
He explained that, in consultation with the Director‑General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Prof Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, and the secretariat responsible for tertiary education, government has taken a policy decision to establish the new teacher training college at Ezinlibo.
He highlighted that the enclave needs its own teacher training facility and that construction is planned to begin in 2027, subject to GETFund resources expected that year.
“It will commence somewhere in 2027, subject to the availability of resources that are intend to generate from the GETfund formula of 2027, but we need a teacher training in that area to serve that particular enclave,” he disclosed.
Mr. Iddrisu added that he met with the chief of Ghana Gas to discuss how government can partner with Ghana Gas under its mandate to support the community in its operational catchment.
