Head of Corporate Communications at the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Jerome K. Sam, has stated that although the Russia–Ukraine War is still ongoing and tensions between Israel and Iran have intensified, President John Mahama has mitigated the effects of the two conflicts.
Speaking on ‘Anopa Bofoo’ on Thursday, April 2, 2026, he noted that despite the ongoing wars, President Mahama has been able to manage the economy effectively, adding that fuel prices have reduced.
“The John Mahama you said is ‘incompetent” has inherited the effects of two wars. What is happening in Israel, Iran, and the US war has shown the level of Mahama’s performance,” he said.
He emphasised that under the administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Russia–Ukraine War was often cited as the reason for economic challenges in the country.
He, however, noted that under the administration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), fuel prices have been reduced compared to what was inherited from the erstwhile Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government.
“Today, someone is governing the country and is not happy to use that, “because of this effect from the two wars,” but still fuel prices are lower than what we came to meet from Nana Addo’s administration,” he stated.
He further explained that fuel price determination in the country does not depend solely on external factors, but internal factors, such as taxes and exchange rate management, also play a significant role.
