Dancehall musician, Shatta Wale, has stirred debate on social media after publicly backing rapper Medikal for Artiste of the Year.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), on April 6, 2026, Shatta Wale described Medikal’s potential win as “fair play” while cautioning critics against spreading negativity.
“Medikal as ‘Artiste of the Year’ is a fair play… Don’t use hate talk nonsense. We wasting time with unnecessary talk for this country too much. No wonder Bongo Ideas can’t make it here in Ghana with all his nonsense sense,” he wrote.
His comments quickly generated reactions from users, with some supporting his stance while others disagreed.
One user, identified as TWÙM SKII, challenged the assertion, suggesting bias in Shatta Wale’s position.
“It’s just favouritism that you are proclaiming bro… is it because you talked about the lil boy’s dressing and he replied you, so now what he deserves you want us to give your follow-back friend,” the comment read.
Another commenter accused the dancehall star of targeting Black Sherif, popularly known as Blacko.
“Now it is obvious that you dislike Blacko. You always find a way to attack the youngster but mind you, you’re never touching his level in the game (BET and numbers). Stay away if you don’t want to support,” the user wrote.
However, some supporters also rallied behind Medikal, with one stating: “Bossu if MDK no win artiste of the year we go burn the show.”
