Three people have been reported dead following renewed shootings in Bawku in the Upper East Region.
Per eyewitnesses account, residents woke up to the news this morning because the incident happened late night during a heavy downpour.
The incident, which took place near the cattle market at Bawku, began when an assailant allegedly invaded a home there.
Further information indicates that the curfew in the town has been reviewed by security agencies from 8:00pm to 6:00am to 4:00pm to 7:00am although an official statement on the curfew is yet to be released.
JoyNews’ Upper East Regional Correspondent, Albert Sore reported that the curfew was reviewed as a source of an emergency measure.
No arrest has yet been made and the Police is yet to issue a statement on the matter.
The Bawku area has become a conflict hotspot since the end of last year resulting in high security surveillance of the town accompanied by high security deployment into the municipality.
As part of measures to return calm to Bawku, the Security Council banned the use of motorbikes in the town and the wearing of smocks, a measure that has come under severe criticism from some security experts.
The Regional Security Council (REGSEC) in the Upper East Region also placed a ban on men picking fellow men on motorbikes in the Bawku Municipality and its environs.
According to the security council, the move is to help beef up security in the area following the renewed conflict in the past months.
