Running mate for National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, has expressed worry over the neglect of projects started by the John Mahama-led administration in the Western North Region.
The running mate, as part of her four-day tour to the region, inspected an E-Block at Sefwi Asempaneye in Juaboso District which has been abandoned. The project was awarded for contract in 2015 under former President John Mahama.
Addressing the press during the inspection, she said that, “just beside me is an abandoned Senior Secondary School, one of the E-blocks and you can tell from even these trees that have had the space to grow so tall that the project has been abandoned for a while”.
Describing the state of the project as a “financial loss to the state”, Prof Opoku Agyemang added that, “so many things should have gone into this project to make it beneficial to many people”.
She was dissatisfied that materials for the construction such as iron rods were missing while weeds had overgrown the construction site.
she added that before such projects can be continued, there has to be re-evaluation and it would cost the state a lot of money to proceed with the project.
She further stressed that continuous neglect of projects, especially those that have reached advanced stages, is an unhealthy practice for the country.
The professor, who is also a former Minister for Education, stated that, “I think it’s unacceptable” when it comes to the habit of abandoning projects that have started well.
Abandoned projects in the region
Meanwhile, other projects that have been abandoned in the Western North Region and need attention include; Sefwi Asafo E-Block in the Wiawso Municipality and the Kwasikrom Nurse’s Quarters in Bodi District among others.
