The Central Regional Security Council has as part of measures to beef up security in the region decided to provide escorts to all Parliamentary candidates during their campaign rounds.
The decision follows the killing of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mankessim last week by some suspected armed robbers.
The NPP MP was shot dead by assailants at the Abeadze Dominase – Abeadze Duadzi – Mankessim Road on his return from a campaign trip.
He is believed to have been attacked at about 1:00 am Friday morning by 6 armed highway robbers.
This development has informed the decision to beef up security around MPs and other politicians in the region.
Commenting on this on ANƆPA BƆFOƆ Morning Show hosted by Captain Smart on Angel FM, a member of the Central Region Security Council, Joe Donkor said the decision forms part of efforts to curtail crime in the region.
“Due to what happened to the MP, the regional security council has agreed to meet with all the MPs no matter which party you belong to so that DCOP Abiba and the team will give them escorts…,” he mentioned.
Mr Donkor who is also the NADMO Director for the Central Region mentioned that the number of Check Points on the Accra-Cape Coast road lends credence to the preparedness of the security in the region to nib crime in the bud.
“We are doing our best, the regional crimes officer is putting in place various measures and doing all they can to fight crime…,” he added.
