The Ofankor Circuit Court has sentenced a 27-year-old tipper truck driver, Emmanuel Ackon to a fine of GH¢960.00 for crashing an 11-year-old boy, Michael Abekah Jackson, to death.
Mr. Ackon will in addition to the fine serve a six-month jail term in default after pleading guilty to the charges of careless, inconsiderate driving and negligently causing harm, when he appeared before the court presided over by Mr. Ebenezer Osei Darko.
Presenting the fact of the case, prosecuting officer, Chief Inspector Charles Annubil noted the incident occurred on June 3, 2021, at Akrampa Junction near Awutu Bereku.
According to him, the accused person was driving a tipper truck with the registration number GR 8763-21 in the company of one other person whiles heading from Kasoa to Akotsi.
He continued that upon reaching a junction there came two pupil, the deceased and one other, crossing from one side to the other side of the road when the unfortunate incident happened−the juncture at which Michael Abekah Jackson met his untimely death.
However, the body of the deceased was conveyed to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital morgue at Winneba for preservation and autopsy.
