Residents of Awutu Bereku and the chiefs have threaten to demonstrate against the District Assembly and the Ministry of Roads and Highways for failing to construct speed ramps on the Awutu Bereku to Awutu Bontrase road.

According to them, the sloping nature of the road is creating series of accidents leading to many injuries and deaths.

The residents got angry after a Kia Rhino with registration GR 1388-13, loaded with sachet water, collided with a tipper truck with registration GN 9638-20 when the the pure water failed break.

Two people are in critical condition and receiving treatment at the Awutu Bereku Health Center.

The residents are therefore giving the District Assembly a two-week ultimatum to construct the speed ramps lest the face their wrath.

Speaking to Angel FM’s Opanyin Darko, a resident said that accidents have been happening every year especially during festivities and elections and authorities have done nothing to avert them. We are giving them a one week ultimatum to construct the speed ramps else we shall demonstrate against them. They can’t sit comfortably enjoying in they offices while people keep losing their lives.

Another noted that they have been complaining about the road for far too long and it’s high time the assembly heeded their cry and take action.

Meanwhile Youth Chief of Awutu Traditional Council, Nai Ekow Nortey, indicated that they are giving the authorities two weeks to address their challenges or else they will demonstrate against authorities since seven accidents have occurred within three months.

Youth Chief, Nai Ekow NorteyNai Ekow Nortey (I), popularly known as Zinco, told Angel news reporter Opanyin Darko that they are calling on the District Assembly to create an alternative road in order to reduce accidents on that stretch.

“We are pleading with the authorities. We are giving them a two week ultimatum to construct the speed ramps else we shall demonstrate against them. We shall demonstrate from the district to the region and take it nationally. If they are ready to do it we would help if not they should divert the road to avoid further clashes. But for the agility of the taxi driver all the passages would have been killed”.

“We are calling on our regional minister Madam Marigold to come to our aid because each time we visit the district they tell us that they’ve written proposals but they never follow up on them. We need the speed ramps and we need them now”.

Furthermore, the Deputy NADMO Director for Awutu Senya West Assembly, Lewis Oti-Boah Ayitey said several letters have been written to the Highways Ministry while waiting for them to solve the problem.
