A wireless message sighted by Angelonline.com.gh indicates that, Government cannot support the various regions in organising this year’s Independence Day celebration.
The message sent by the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osie Opare, to all Regional Ministers and Regional Coordinating Councils, said the inability of the government to financially support the regions in marking the event is because it is cash strapped.
“I am directed to inform your Regional Coordinating Councils that due to budget constraints: the office of the President cannot provide financial support to your councils for 65th March activities for this year, as has been the practice over the years,” the message dated March 2, 2022 said in part.
She, therefore, advised that the regions mark the event with modesty.
The 65th Independence celebration would be held at the Cape Coast Stadium under the theme, “Working together, Bouncing back better.”
As it is accustomed to doing, there would be contingents from all walks of life present to show solidarity to the state on the day.
However, at this year’s event, on the back of the information making wave in the media, an organizer of the event has indicated that persons to partake in the march would for the first time not be served foods.
