Ghanaian Afrobeats singer, Wendy Shay has been subjected to criticism for supporting musicians who fail to attend awards ceremonies.
According to her, about 80% of Grammy Winners didn’t show up for the awards, throwing a subtle shade at Ghanaians who are criticizing artistes for not turning up for the 3Music Awards.
The ‘Krom aye hye’ hitmaker’s statement comes after most Ghanaian artistes failed to show up at this year’s 3Music Awards which took place at the Accra International Conference Center.
She tweeted on April 3, 2022, saying most artistes didn’t show up for the Grammys hence she should be given a breathing space.
“Grammy sef Artise no Dey rep Mmo ma yen dwen fen ho”, she Tweeted.
Wendy Shay’s comment upset many followers who came at her while asking her to be humble making reference to her early days in the music industry.

@ThoughtPillow also wrote, “But Wendy, it doesn’t speak well of you if you say this. If you’re nominated, you need to show up unless there’s a situation beyond your control. Gracing such occasions are also part of making the industry better. Let’s think positive all the time. Text me dear.”

The absence of the musicians at the 3Music Awards got many people questioning why they were not there.
Some media personalities expressed their disbelief in the attitude of the musicians who are the primary beneficiaries of such events.
Abeiku Santana for instance, added his voice and described the absence of nominees as uncivilized.
Caroline Sampson of Asaase radio also questioned nominees who didn’t show up for the awards what they really wanted.
However, Wendy Shay has said that people do not attend international awards such as Grammys hence it is no big deal.
