The first Minister of Energy under President Akufo-Addo, Boakye Agyarko, says that he doesn’t have any relationship with his former boss.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Asempa FM, on Tuesday, he said that he does not hate President Akufo-Addo, however it is time for him to move on.
Mr. Boakye Agyarko explained that “I do not have a relationship with him [President Akufo-Addo] now. No, I don’t. People get married for thirty years and they get divorced, don’t they? …Not because of hatred.”
“Me, I will never let anybody bring me so low as to hate him. I don’t hate anybody, but there comes a time when circumstances make it that you go your way, you have to move on.”
Responding to a question about President Akufo-Addo not trusting him, he said “he [President] has to answer that, I trusted him.”
Mr. Agyarko, who was relieved from office by the President in 2018 over a botched power purchase agreement between the Ghana and AMERI, declared that he would not accept any appointment again in the Akufo-Addo-led administration.
He indicated that “I am pursuing my own presidential ambition, for which a lot of people kicked against right from the beginning. I will not abandon it to go and do any other thing. I am focused on what I have to do for myself and my nation. That is my focus. If you serve with all your strength and the person doesn’t appreciate it, you move on. If I cannot give something a hundred percent, I will not do it. I’m I not deserving of being the flagbearer of the NPP?”
