Former President John Dramani Mahama has urged the ruling government to act proactively to ensure that the people of Appiate are supported to bring their lives back on track.
According to Mr. Mahama, even though the government has rolled out programmes in support of the victims, the need to intensify its support system is key.
At least 13 people were killed in an explosion near a mining town in the Western Region. This happened after a truck carrying explosives to a gold mining site crashed with a motorcycle near the town of Bogoso.
The former President made the call when he visited the Appiate community on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, to interact with the chiefs, the Appiate Disaster Relief Committee, and the people of the community.
In a Facebook post he wrote “In my remarks, I reiterated the concern of the affected community about compensation and urged the government to act proactively to ensure that the people are supported to bring their lives back on track.
“The people have appreciated the response and support from the government after the disaster but their continued livelihoods are also important,” Mr. Mahama said.
He also presented them with an amount of money to support the further treatment of some of the injured victims.
