Renowned investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas will be testifying against former President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi in court without his trademark mask.
This follows an order from the Supreme Court compelling the investigative Journalist to appear in open Court to face Mr. Nyantakyi who was implicated in Anas’ Number 12 expose.
The Apex Court’s ruling comes after an application from Mr. Nyantakyi to quash the Accra High Court order granting Anas the opportunity to testify in camera [testify in the private chambers of a judge without the media presence].
Mr. Nyantakyi filed his application in May 2022 through his lead counsel which has been granted by the court.
The former GFA boss told the Supreme Court that the High Court’s ruling was erroneous and pleaded for the investigative journalist’s testimony to be made public.
A ruling by the Supreme Court on Tuesday presided over by Justice Baffoe-Bonnie stated that the celebrated investigative journalist should appear in court and testify publicly as a prosecution witness.
It is recalled that Kwesi Nyantakyi appeared before the Accra High Court in March 2021 and was slapped with three charges.
He was charged with conspiracy to commit fraud, fraud and corruption by a public officer.
This was after Nyantakyi was captured in Anas’ ‘Number 12’ exposé, allegedly taking cash gifts and peddling influence.
Following the release of Number 12, Mr. Nyantakyi resigned as GFA President.
He also lost his positions as FIFA Council Member and 1st Vice President of CAF while facing a ban from all football related activities.
