The Black Stars of Ghana have today Friday, November 18, 2022, arrived in Qatar, barely two days before the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana completed its preparations going into the tournament with a friendly match against Switzerland Thursday, November 17, at Abu Dhabi with a 2-0 win.
The Ghanaian contingent thus left Abu Dhabi and has landed in Qatar to continue their preparation ahead of their first group match against Portugal on Thursday, November 24.

Black Stars return to the 2022 edition of the tournament after they failed to qualify for the 2018 edition in Russia.
Meanwhile, they had already appeared at three different World Cup tournaments – 2006, 2010 and 2014.
The team will stay at the Double Tree Hilton hotel before taking on Portugal as its group opener.
They will subsequently play Uruguay and later South Korea.

Going into the tournament, Ghanaians are hopeful the team will perform better at the Mundial amidst equaling its best record (South Africa-2010) where it’s reached the quarter-final stage.
Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana are the only three sides from the continent to have ever reached the quarter-finals stage of the competition.

The Cameroonians achieved that feat in Italian 1990, whiles Senegal equalled that mark in Japan-Korea 2002 before Ghana added its name to the record in South Africa in 2010.
