Part of the Katamanto market in the Greater Accra Region has been gutted by fire leaving several shops destroyed.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday morning, November 29, 2022, saw properties worth thousands of Ghana Cedis at the Central Business District destroyed beyond recognition.
The incident, according to eyewitnesses, affected most of the shops near the railway line section of the market.
According to Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the cause of the fire is yet to be established but no casualty has been recorded.
The firefighters who visited the scene upon a swift response with the support of the Ghana Police have put out the fire.
The Police have cordoned off the affected area to enable the fire officers to carry out their duty without any obstructions.
Meanwhile, officers have also been deployed to prevent possible looting and also direct the movement of persons and vehicles away from the incident scene.
The Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, visited the scene in the company of the Inspector-General of Police to assess the extent of damage and console the affected traders.
