The Electricity Company of Ghana has announced that the 30% adjustment in utility tariff commences tomorrow, Wednesday, February 1, 2023.
ECG in a release cited by angelonline.com.gh said we wish “to inform our cherished customers that the upward review of of electricity tariffs for the first quarter will be implemented with effect from Wednesday, 1st February, 2023…”
This follows the upward review in tariffs by the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURC) as indicated on January 16.
PURC announced a 30% increment for electricity prices and 8.3% for water which kick starts February 1, 2023.
They justified the increase citing cedi depreciation, high inflation rates as well as power generation challenges.
ECG’s statement also added that it has catalogued all unit consumption and the expected cost in a “Reckoner” which clearly explains how the tariff is applied and billed.
“Please note that individual customers’ tariff percentage increase will depend on customer classification and consumption category. The Reckoner will be displayed at all our districts and customer service centres nationwide to guide customers on their electricity purchases.”
The power distributor further assured clients and stakeholders of their commitment to ensure a smooth implementation of the new tariff.
To resolve emerging challenges and for smoother operations, customer help desks have been set up in all districts and customer service centres by the ECG.
