Commissioner of Police (COP), George Alex Mensah (Retired), has disclosed that he’s considering running for Parliament on the ticket of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
COP Mensah who retired on Friday, September 15, 2023, told Angel FM’s news anchor, Kofi Adoma Nwanwani that, his eyes are firmly set on the Bekwai seat ahead of the 2024 elections.
Commissioner of Police George Alex Mensah says he is set to contest the Asante Bekwai parliamentary seat in the Ashanti Region.
This announcement comes as he officially retired from the Ghana Police Service after 31 years of service.
He explained that, having served the nation with his heart and mind, he believes the time is right give same to people in the land of his heritage. The Bekwai seat is currently occupied by Joseph Osei Owusu, who doubles as Deputy Speaker in the Ghanaian Parliament.
The 61-year-old was elected as an Independent Candidate during the 2008 general elections after he lost in the election as the NPP’s candidate.
He won a majority of 34,700 votes to become the MP.
He succeeded Ignatius Kofi Poku Edusei who had represented the constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
