Ghana Black Stars have been dealt a big blow ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Comoros on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, following injury of its top defender.
Turkey-based defender Daniel Amartey failed a late fitness test for the all-important second group game due to suspected hamstring injury.
Amartey had limped off the game against Madagascar on Friday after he sustain of hamstring injury. He was later replaced by Kasim Nuhu.
Due to this development, the former Leicester City player who started the opening game in Kumasi was left out of training in Moroni on Sunday.
In an update on the Black Stars by the Ghana Football Association’s communication team, said Daniel Amartey would be out of Tuesday’ match.
“Although MRI scans did not reveal any obvious injury, his clinical progress as monitored by the medical team has been rather slow, making him unavailable for the Black Stars ahead of the FIFA World Cup qualifier against Comoros,” said the GFA.
Ghana having beaten Madagascar in Kumasi courtesy by an Inaki Williams late goal would be hoping for a better result against Comoros in their quest of qualifying to its fifth world cup tournament after 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022.
