The lack of proactiveness of the Electoral Commission (EC) in the discharge of its duties to ensure incident-free before and during elections, has cost the country in many ways, a Security Consultant has said.
Richard Kumadoe, who is also the Founder of Independent Election Security and Compliance Watchers (IESCW), believes the electoral body is to be blame for most challenges facing the it because it has refused to be effective in its dealings.
The situation he said, contributed to the violent that were recorded at some centres in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.
“So, we need to ask the EC how come there have been continuous ineffectiveness and inaccuracies in their day-to-day activities all these years. So that is where we are now as a nation,” Richard Kumadoe told Kwadwo Appong Kyeremeh on the Angel Morning Show on Monday, May 13, 2024.
According to the Security Consultant, although violence should never be ideal to express displeasure, the Electoral Commission had created an avenue for anxiety among Ghanaians leading to insecurity.
“We in the security [and] intelligence environment, when the system keeps breaking down, it builds up to anger, anxiety which lead to insecurity,” says Mr. Kumadoe.
He asserted that “If the EC had belonged to your father, I don’t think we would be paying people who have been so ineffective, inaccurate and lackadaisical when it comes to discharging their duties.”
