Speaking at a hearing by the Parliamentary Select Sports Committee on Monday, September 30, Saijah confirmed the payment for referees working in the country’s top football league.
“[The salary] is a take-home of 1,000 cedis for Premier League referees. The Division One League and the referees in the Women’s League receive 750 cedis,” he said.
He further clarified that this payment covers not only the officiating duties but also transportation, accommodation, and food expenses.
“The 1,000 cedis comprise of their transportation, officiating, hotel and food.”
Saijah also pointed out that his association does not appoint referees for Premier League matches, stating, “The Ghana Football Association (GFA) selects referees for match officiating, not us,” he added.
