Chairperson and Leader of the People’s National Party (PNP), Janet Asana Nabla, has stated that she is uncomfortable with President John Mahama’s transitional appointments.

According to Janet Nabla, the president did well by choosing Jane Naana Mensah as his vice president to improve women’s empowerment in the country; however, she is not happy with John Mahama’s transitional appointments.

During a panel discussion on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) hosted by Sadick Adams on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Janet Nabla explained that the president appointed only one female to the transitional team.

However, she expected the president to include more women in the transitional team, which did not happen.

Janet Nabla further stated that the transition team is one of the important committees to be set up for the president’s inauguration, and she thinks the president did not do well by appointing only one woman out of the eleven people he appointed.

She believes that women are different from men when it comes to calculations and that attention is often focused on women rather than men.

She stated, “The truth is, the moment they won power, I was waiting to congratulate her, but I saw that they first brought two appointments, and one is the transitional team, which consists of ten men and one woman. Even on the ORAL committee, there is no woman. This is the reason why I have not congratulated Vice President Jane Naana Mensah.”

According to her, they expect more women in various committees, which she thinks the vice president could influence to empower women in the country. However, this is the only representation they see from the vice president, and nothing else.

She stated that Jane Mensah should have more influence over the upcoming appointments to include more women in this administration.

“The vice president has a lot of influence on the coming appointments, and even the president himself, during his campaign, stated that he would include 30% women in every governmental project. What happened that in the transition team he did not include that 30%? To me, I am uncomfortable with his failure to fulfill his promise to include more women in the transition team,” she added.
