Former Deputy Defence Minister, Major Derrick Oduro (Retired), claims that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has lost authority as the head of police due to fears of losing his position.

According to him, the IGP is concerned about losing his role following a change in government thus rendering him powerless.

Major Derrick Oduro said this in an interview with Saddick Adams on the Angel Morning Show on January 13, 2025, while discussing the recent lawlessness and breakdown of order in the country following pockets of violence in parts of the country.

He believes that the breakdown of laws has rendered the country ungovernable, with potentially severe consequences.

“Now they are saying there is no national security, but I know we have police and soldiers in the country. The security services gave up during the election, especially in regions and districts like Obuasi, where there were threats of chaos, and the police felt powerless to intervene. They said if you don’t declare the election in favour of the NDC, we won’t understand,” he explained.

In furtherance, Major Derrick Oduro asserted that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, is now powerless due to the fear instilled in him by certain individuals of the ruling government and preventing him to carry out his duties effectively.

“They said the IGP should investigate what is happening, but now the IGP is powerless because of the fears that have permeated the country. He is uncertain about his position, and even the Army Commander is in a similar situation because they have been threatened and are concerned about job security,” Major Oduro asserted.
