The National Road Safety National (NSRA) has strengthened ties with the Eastern Regional Minister to address road hazards and safety interventions in the region and Ghana at large.

It comes to light when Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Abraham Amaliba, and his team paid a working visit to the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, on Thursday, March 20, 2025.

The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration on critical road safety challenges.

Mr. Amaliba called for urgent interventions to fix the bridge over the Birimso River, which lacks safety railings, posing a danger to road users.

He also raised concerns over the indiscriminate parking of long vehicles on the shoulders of the Accra–Nkawkaw–Kumasi Highway, especially at Apedwa Junction, stating that this contributes to frequent road accidents along that stretch.

He further lamented the encroachment of town roads and pedestrian walkways by traders, particularly in Koforidua, Nkurakan, and Anyinam.

Touching on road safety awareness, he hinted at the upcoming Easter Road Safety Campaign, emphasizing the region’s prominence in Easter activities and the need for heightened safety measures.

In her opening address, the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Awatey commended the NRSA for its efforts in ensuring road safety and reaffirmed her commitment to supporting its operations in the region.

She assured that stakeholder engagements would be prioritized to address the challenges on the roads and ensure the necessary interventions.
