The Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, has formally requested copies of petitions submitted against her, calling for her removal from office.
In a letter addressed to key stakeholders in the legal and judicial system, Justice Torkornoo stressed the importance of reviewing the petitions before any conclusions are drawn by the President and the Council of State, as required under Article 146(6) of the Constitution.
On Thursday, March 27, she submitted the request to the President of the Supreme Court, the President of the Association of Magistrates and Judges, and the President of the Ghana Bar Association.
Additionally, she attached copies of a letter sent to President John Mahama, the Chair of the Council of State, Doe Adjaho and former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo.
In her letter, Justice Torkornoo formally requested access to the petitions filed against her, reaffirming her commitment to due process and transparency in the administration of justice.
The request is part of ongoing consultations between the President and the Council of State regarding the matter, as outlined in the Constitution.
