The Acting Ashanti Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Baah Acheamfour, has issued a warning to lead a one-man demonstration against President John Dramani Mahama if he fails to investigate the soldiers involved in the Nyinahin shootings that tragically resulted in the death of Akwasi Lala.

Mr. Acheamfour made this declaration following a visit to Akwasi Lala’s family in Nyinahin on Friday, April 25, 2025, where he expressed his profound outrage over the incident.

He firmly stated that the soldiers had deliberately initiated the shootings that led to Akwasi’s untimely demise.

Describing the incident as unprofessional and utterly unacceptable, he questioned why the military did not apprehend Akwasi if they believed he had committed an offence.

Emphasising that Akwasi Lala was not a criminal, Mr. Acheamfour asserted that he did not deserve such treatment from the military.

He has issued a two-week ultimatum to President Mahama, the Minister of Defence, Omane Boamah, and his deputy, Hon. Brogya Gyamfi, demanding a thorough investigation into the actions of the soldiers involved in the shooting, with a call for accountability.

Mr. Acheamfour believes that the President, as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has a paramount responsibility to ensure that the military operates within the bounds of the law and respects the rights of citizens.

He revealed a personal connection to Akwasi Lala, having known him well and being aware of his contributions towards the NDC’s success in the 2024 elections. He characterised Akwasi Lala as a dedicated party member who did not deserve to be treated in such a brutal manner.

In conclusion, he threatened to lead a demonstration against President Mahama if no action is taken underscores the NDC’s commitment to seeking justice for its members.

“The party’s demand for an investigation and action against the soldiers involved is a testament to its determination to hold those in power accountable for their actions.

“As the ultimatum expires, it remains to be seen how President Mahama will respond to the NDC’s demands.

“If the president does not take any action, his own party members will lead a demonstration in Nyinahin, so the government must advise itself and investigate this matter,” Mr. Acheamfour warned.
