The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has declared a suspension of funeral ceremonies beginning on September 1, 2025, with the restriction lasting until September 18.
This directive is intended to facilitate the funeral arrangements for Nana Konadu Yiadom III, the Asantehemaa, who died on August 7, 2025.
“Today was the one week. From September 1, there is a ban on funerals,” Otumfuo proclaimed via his spokesperson, Baffour Kantankrankyi, during the one-week observation.
The Queen Mother’s funeral rites will commence on the evening of September 14, 2025, with her body lying in state at the Manhyia Palace for public homage.
The observances will proceed from Monday, September 15, 2025, and conclude on September 18, when she will be interred at Breman during the night.
From September 16 to 18, 2025, the King will be present to receive sympathizers.
It was also announced that all commercial establishments must shut down on September 18, the final day of the funeral rites.
“On that, there will be no noise. No shop will open. All will join Asanteman to mourn, and we will bury the Queen at Breman,” he stated, emphasizing that everyone should wear black attire.
In this regard, movement restrictions will be enforced on the night of September 18.
“No one must be seen outside that night,” Otumfuo’s spokesperson stressed.
