Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson has outlined key initiatives aimed at strengthening governance and combating corruption.
According to the 2026 budget statement presented in Parliament by the Minister, good governance remains the cornerstone of the country’s economic transformation.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
Key highlights of the budget include the publication of the Governance Diagnostic Report with International Monetary Fund (IMF) support, providing a roadmap to enhance institutional strength and transparency.
Mr. Forson mentioned that the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan has also been updated through a participatory process involving civil society and development partners.
He revealed that the government plans to introduce a Conduct of Public Officers Bill in December 2025, requiring senior officials to publicly disclose assets upon assumption and exit from office.
“These steps reaffirm our commitment to integrity and accountability in public service,” he noted.
He further indicated that anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorist-financing frameworks have been strengthened, with a Joint Action Plan on Illicit Financial Flows launched in October 2025 involving key agencies like the Bank of Ghana and Financial Intelligence Centre.
Reflecting on 2025, Mr. Forson said, “Our collective efforts have stabilised the cedi, reduced inflation to single digits, restored fiscal discipline, and revived growth.”
He added that Ghana is “firmly on a path toward sustained prosperity” following bold structural reforms.
