Leader of the Union Government (UG), Akwasi Addae Odike, has proposed to the government the incorporation of security studies into the country’s school curriculum.
He stated that implementing such an initiative will help provide early education on safety and vigilance, preparing young people to confront emergency threats in society.
Speaking on the recruitment process of security agencies, Odike reasoned that security should be a course studied from Junior High School to the tertiary level to boost security consciousness.
“Why don’t we make security as a course, from JHS to tertiary? Because talking of the indiscipline, we need a different style of training to boost our security consciousness and awareness,” he stated.
Mr. Odike highlighted that this will help schoolchildren go through security education, adding that when a person is willing or passionate about serving the country in any security agency, he or she would choose it from the onset.
“When a person is willing or passionate about military, Police,Fire and immigration they would choose it right from school then migrate to army training then enter any area of their choice in the security,” he
He explained that people get educated on the type of profession they choose, so the same should apply to security.
Why is it that when someone wants to get into medicine they would have to pass Maths and Science, driving is a profession which needs schooling, Security is a profession which needs to be inculcated into the youth,” he said.
He proposed that cadet members and anyone who wishes to join any of the security agencies should be given professional training.
“This is my proposal, there are lots of cadet armies in schools who are not called for recruitment, they should have automatic qualification because they have the fundamentals.
“Any one who wants to be in the security agency should be given professional training from infancy to make their choice of agency when they grow up,” he proposed.
