Former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South Constituency in the Eastern Region, Samuel Atta Akyea, says the government’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), an anti-corruption initiative meant to recover state funds, is politically motivated.
According to the former lawmaker, the ORAL is not a sincere effort to fight corruption, as claimed by the government.
Mr. Atta Akyea explained that publicly announcing an investigation after it begins creates an unfair public opinion and subjects the person involved to a media trial even before any conclusions are reached.
“After you investigate someone and make it public, it exposes the person to public criticism,” he said.
He said this in a one-on-one interview on UTV monitored by Angelonline on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, and added that in civilized environments, investigations are usually conducted undercover, with secret visits to collect evidence without the person’s knowledge.
He believes that ORAL’s anti-corruption agenda is more political propaganda than a genuine investigation, saying allegations of stolen state funds should be addressed by the courts, not the media.
“I don’t call it investigations as if they want to dramatize the whole findings of the person. I called it a political propaganda. If someone has stolen funds is not the media but the court of competent jurisdiction for adjudication,” he urged.
