The National Democratic Congress has officially revoked the membership of Mr. Umar Sanda after he declared his intention to contest the upcoming Ayawaso East Constituency by-election as an independent candidate.
In a letter by the NDC dated Tuesday, February 17, 2026, addressed to Mr. Sanda, the party recognized that his decision to contest independently in the March 3, 2026, by-election contravenes the party’s constitution.
“This decision is in direct contravention of the Party’s Constitution and the collective decision of the Party to field a duly democratically elected candidate,” the Party noted.
According to the letter, choosing to contest against the party automatically forfeits membership, adding that “you are prohibited from using the Party’s name, logo, color, insignia, symbols, or any other intellectual property or paraphernalia associated with the Party in the course of your campaign.”
