Minister of Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, has expressed his disappointment in the customs division following the interception of articulated trucks evading taxes amounting to over Ghc85 million.
During a meeting with the customs division, he asserted that this incident is nothing short of organised crime.
“I will say it as it is; what happened yesterday was nothing short but an organised crime. It’s a group of citizens coming together to dupe the country.”
Ato Forson emphasized that in a country facing significant developmental challenges, including high unemployment, incidents like this should not occur.
He highlighted the plight of school children who still study under trees, the struggles to fund free senior high schools, and the basic amenities lacking in certain hospitals.
He expressed his discontent, indicating his disappointment in customs for failing in their services to the country and allowing such acts to happen.
“After all these we still see revenue leakage then I am very disgusted about what happened yesterday, very, very disappointed.
“I say this because if you have a country with such a magnitude of development challenges and you see revenue leakage of such magnitude, you get disappointed,” he stated.
