The Ghana High Commission in South Africa has engaged the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) in strategic discussions aimed at strengthening tourism collaboration and expanding Ghana’s footprint in Africa’s fast-growing business events industry.
The meeting took place when Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Benjamin Quashie, received the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, at the Ghana High Commission in Pretoria.
The engagement followed Ghana’s participation in Meetings Africa 2026, widely recognised as the continent’s premier trade exhibition for the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) sector.

Mr. Aggrey, who led Ghana’s delegation to the event, paid a courtesy call on the High Commissioner after the country’s successful showing at the trade fair.
Ghana’s participation was supported by the Ghana Tourism Authority in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts.
Discussions during the meeting centred on strengthening institutional collaboration between Ghana’s diplomatic mission and the tourism sector to position Ghana as a preferred destination for international conferences, exhibitions, and other global business events.
High Commissioner Quashie reaffirmed the mission’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote Ghana’s tourism industry and enhance the country’s visibility in the global MICE market.
Mr. Aggrey, on his part, emphasised the importance of deepening partnerships between diplomatic missions and tourism agencies to attract more international events to Ghana while showcasing the country’s rich cultural heritage and renowned hospitality.

The engagement is expected to further strengthen cooperation between Ghana’s diplomatic missions and tourism stakeholders as part of broader efforts to promote Ghana as a leading destination for both leisure and business tourism in Africa.
