The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Akim Oda Constituency, of evading key issues and resorting to propaganda in response to concerns raised about developments in the Birim Central Municipality.
The concerns, which include allegations of assault, intimidation, illegal mining (galamsey), unfair allocation of market stores, and destruction of billboards, were largely dismissed or sidestepped in the NDC’s statement, according to the NPP.
“The NDC statement deliberately avoided addressing the most serious issues raised and instead resorted to diversionary tactics and political propaganda,” the NPP said in a press release.
Specific allegations include the assault on an assembly member for Essam electoral area, Charles Awuku Acquah, which the NDC called “baseless,” despite the matter being reported to the police.
The NPP also criticized the NDC’s response to galamsey concerns as “dismissive” and “unfortunate.”
The NPP is demanding transparency on the allocation of stores at the Akyem Oda Central Market, publication of the full list of allocated stores, and an investigation into billboard destruction.
“Public resources must never be used for partisan reward systems, and public authority must never be exercised through intimidation,” the NPP stated.
The party urged the public to hold officials accountable, emphasizing that concerns raised affect all Akyem Oda residents regardless of political affiliation.
