Ghanaian dancehall musician Shatta Wale, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah, has once again taken a swipe at Raymond Archer, the Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), following the controversy surrounding his seized Lamborghini Urus.
In an interview, the musician insisted that the EOCO boss and the entire office must render an unqualified apology for what he described as damage to his brand.
According to Shatta Wale, the reports and public discussions that followed the seizure of his yellow Lamborghini not only affected his reputation in Ghana but also abroad.
“I am aware that I am to appear before the court today. I am still speaking with my lawyers to see if I will show up because I didn’t want the public to know, since my fans may show up and it would become a whole issue,” he said.
The dancehall artiste suggested that the situation feels like a targeted attempt against him, saying it has made him uncomfortable about appearing in public.
“I see this whole situation either as a game or that I am a target of something, which is why I don’t feel comfortable going out. EOCO should apologise to my brand and not just Shatta Wale because they have really tarnished my image in foreign lands. Now everybody thinks I bought a stolen car,” he added.
Shatta Wale further expressed disappointment in the way he was handled by the EOCO boss, noting that he would have cooperated with investigators if the matter had been handled privately.
“Why would I buy a stolen car and flaunt it around? I felt so bad. I really respected the EOCO boss, and even when I saw him the first day, I knelt and told him that he shouldn’t let the issue come out because of the way he came to my house,” he said.
He added that if he had been informed the vehicle was stolen, he would have allowed the authorities to take it away quietly without attracting public attention.
“If he had told me the car was stolen, I would have asked them to take it away quietly because I was buying a fleet of cars at that time. I could have quietly replaced the car without drawing attention to myself,” he stated.
