Our Data Centre is safe, disregard social media falsehood – ECThe Electoral Commission (EC) says their Data Centre is safe and secure despite Friday’s fire outbreak at one of their offices at Sarpeiman.
Angelonline.com.gh earlier reported that the Commission’s regional office in Sarpeiman, near Accra has been damaged by a fire incident in the early hours of Friday, August 14, 2020.
Earlier reports said the damaged building was meant for storage of old and used items, however, the main administration block was unscathed.
A statement from the Commission confirmed the fire outbreak but denied any destruction of the Commission’s data centre by the blaze.
The statement read as follows, “the Commission entreats the General Public to ignore the falsehood being peddled on social media to the effect that its Data Centre was destroyed by the fire. The Electoral Commission assures the General Public that its Data Centre is safe and secure”.
According to the Commission, the items gutted by the fire include; old forms, ballot boxes and referendum stationery.
The EC said they are working with the Fire Service and Security Agencies to unearth the cause of the fire.
In the meantime, the Public Relations Officer of EC, Sylvia Annor has assured that the report on the investigations will be made known to the public during an interview with Citi News.
“It is important to assure the general public that the fire outbreak will not affect the conduct of the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections,” she added.
