The Oti Regional Minister, Joshua Makubu, has donated twenty (20) packets of roofing sheets to support Bonakye M/A Basic School in the Nkwanta South municipality of the Oti Region.
The presentation, which was done by Mr. John Kweku Thasun, Municipal Chief Executive for Nkwanta South, on behalf of Mr. Makubu, was part of efforts to restore the school structure after it experienced severe windstorm that ripped some roofs off.
At a brief gathering, Mr. Thasun indicated to the school that the assembly is putting measures in place to maintain all affected class room blocks within the shortest possible time to enable the final year students write their final examinations.
He nonetheless called for support from philanthropists and stakeholders to help improve upon the facility to make it more accommodating to students, since Bonakye M/A Basic School is a centre for BECE examination in the area.
Nkwanta South Municipal Education Director, Mr. Jonathan Korsinah, who was overwhelmed by the Minister’s move lauded him for his efforts which made it possible for the school to receive the items.
According to Mr. Korsinah, the situation of the school has been a headache ever since the roofs got ripped off, hence the provision of the roofing sheets was a great relief.
Also present at the gathering was Chief of Bonakye in the Nkwanta South, Nana Akonsi Besane I. He expressed appreciation to the Minister and promised to provide woods to be used for the roofing.
He also took the opportunity to appeal to the government to provide the school a library and a computer lab to aid student’s acquisition of knowledge.
