The Ghana Grid Company has blamed May 7, 2022, power outages in some areas of the country on a system disturbance caused by faulty equipment on the Takoradi Extension–Winneba line.
The company explained that the fault caused a complete shutdown of all generating plants at Aboadze, Bui, and Kpong.
According to Gridco, the Tema plant, with the exception of the Kpone Thermal Power Plant, was also forced to shut down.
“This caused forced outages within the coastal corridor of the National Grid which led to power supply interruptions in some parts of Greater Accra, Western/Central, Middle and Northern parts of the country”, a statement from Gridco read.
The statement added that “however, Akosombo and Kpone Thermal Plants continued to be in service supplying power.”
While apologising for the inconvenience caused by the widespread outage, the company informed stakeholders that restoration of power began immediately and supply has been restored to all bulk supply points by 23:29 hours.
Gridco also assured its valued stakeholders that it will continue to work towards the provision of a reliable power system for Ghana’s socio-economic development.
